The Relation between Physical and Gravitational Geometry
نویسنده
چکیده
The appearance of two geometries in a single gravitational theory is familiar. Usually, as in the Brans-Dicke theory or in string theory, these are conformally related Riemannian geometries. Is this the most general relation between the two geometries allowed by physics ? We study this question by supposing that the physical geometry on which matter dynamics take place could be Finslerian rather than just Riemannian. An appeal to the weak equivalence principle and causality then leads us to the conclusion that the Finsler geometry has to reduce to a Riemann geometry whose metric the physical metric is related to the gravitational metric by a generalization of the conformal transformation. 1 E-mail: [email protected]

Ray-tracing and Interferometry in Schwarzschild Geometry
Here, we investigate the possible optical anisotropy of vacuum due to gravitational field. In doing this, we provide sufficient evidence from direct coordinate integration of the null-geodesic equations obtained from the Lagrangian method, as well as ray-tracing equations obtained from the Plebanski’s equivalent medium theory. All calculations are done for the Schwarzschild geometry, which resu...
متن کاملStudy of Solar Magnetic and Gravitational Energies Through the Virial Theorem
Virial theorem is important for understanding stellar structures. It produces an interesting connection between magnetic and gravitational energies. Using the general form of the virial theorem including the magnetic field (toroidal magnetic field), we may explain the solar dynamo model in relation to variations of the magnetic and gravitational energies. We emphasize the role of the gravitatio...
متن کاملرابطه معنا، زیبایی، شکل و سازه در معماری اسلامی ایران
In the Islamic architecture of Iran, meaning, aesthetics, shape and structure are four fundamental factors by an appropriate combination of them a traditional architect is able to manifest an image of metaphysical world on material world. A rational and integrated relation of these factors has put the Islamic architecture of Iran in an outstanding position. An important challenge of the modern ...
متن کاملThe Geometry of Karbandi in Persian Architecture; Response to the Challenges of Conventional and Stellar Karbandi
Karbandi is one of the original and ancient arched elements in Persian architecture which is formed based on a network with harmonic geometry and in addition to architectural function, it also has structural behavior. However, there are ambiguities about the geometry of this architectural element that should be addressed with targeted research. One of these ambiguities is to determine how the g...
متن کاملPoincaré’s Geometric Conventionalism and Relativity Principle: a physical perspective on GRT
Since Einstein’s 1916 development of gravitation it is considered a necessity that a theoretically consistent and experimentally accurate theory of gravitation requires the intrinsic curvature of Riemannian geometry [1, 2]: concomitantly the ontology of space and time becomes entangled with gravitation, and ‘reality’, as the observer invariant present, is obliterated. Standard geometrodynamic r...
